The White Tank Mts. lie 20+ miles west of Phoenix and are so named because of the pools that are found in the white bedrock. This area is home to several species of cactus, flowers and wildlife. In this park there are 25 miles of hiking trails. One of the most scenic is the Ford Canyon Trail. At this time of year we should see flowers including brittle bush, hedgehog cactus, creosote bushes and other flowering cactus and succulents. Hopefully, the whole desert will be in bloom following the rains we have had this year.
Be sure to bring at least three liters of water, trail snacks, sturdy shoes, a hat and sunscreen protection. Also, there is a $6.00 entrance fee per car to enter the park. We plan on having a barbecue after the hike so bring some beverages and some food to cook on the grills.
If you are not current on your $15 annual friends Hiking Club membership the hike is $5.00.
Note: "not attending" RSVP's are unnecessary.
