MT LEMMON - WILDERNESS OF ROCKS LOOP
Dayhike - Northeast of Tucson
Sat, June 15
Leader: Bob Waskowich ( [masked] )
Length: 9.5 miles
Rating: Moderately Strenuous
MEET in the EAST END of Fry’s Electronics parking lot, I-10 and Baseline, 6:00 AM Sharp!
Starting at the top of Mt Lemmon we will follow an old dirt road for about one half mile where we intersect with the Lemmon Rock Trail intersection. We then begin our 1800 foot, 2 mile descent through the pines down a series of switchbacks where we will then intersect with the Wilderness of Rocks Trail.
Heading west for 2.3 miles, we wind our way through stunning views of rock piles, giant monoliths, pine groves, and the rock face cliffs above us. It really is quite spectacular. We then intersect with the Mt Lemmon trail and turn north and head back up to the mountain top for about 4 miles with incredible views of the canyons and rocks below. You will need plenty of water to carry on this hike along with some proper nourishment and clothing. Although the air is much cooler at the higher elevations [masked]ft) the sun is very intense and hikers should plan accordingly.
Afterward we will refresh ourselves properly for the ride home.
