Come see stunning, boulder-strewn canyons, views of mountains near the Four Peaks and some seasonal springs. We will start with the southern half of Pine Creek, as it is more scenic and will save the downhill parts for the end. At 0.8 miles from the trailhead, we will reach the highest point on Pine Creek Loop, a 2785 foot vantage point that gives you a panorama of surrounding mountains and valleys. The trail then proceeds northeast to where the Ballantine Trail begins. Now on the Ballantine, we head toward Boulder Flat and the trail soon begins to climb. At 3.6 miles from the trailhead, the trail climbs to a 3700’ saddle, overlooking a landscape dotted with large boulders. This is the entry to Boulder Flat. We may visit Camp Creek before retracing our steps back to the northern Pine Creek trail and then to our vehicles.
Remember some ca$h for carpool!
