Mount Baldy - Thompson

  • Jun 30, 2012 · 7:00 PM

Fri - Sun, June 29 - July 1
Leader: Paul Hiegel

Length: 9 - 10 miles

Rating: Moderate + (trail portion) to Difficult (uncharted area)

Elevation change: 1,000’

RSVP with hike leader by PHONE, meeting location TBD
This backpack trip will take us into the beautiful high country of the Mount Baldy wilderness.

Leaving sometime on Friday, we will be camping our first night on the East Baldy Trailhead at about 9,800 feet.

On Saturday, we will exit the main trail system and go off trail to intersect with the West Fork of the Black River (maybe fresh trout for supper?) and will be making camp on our second night along the West Fork.

Sunday, we will make our way down the stream to intersect with the Thompson Trail and back to our shuttle vehicle in the Thompson Trail area.

A stop at Moose Henri's in Lakeside after the hike is probable.

Note: This backpack trip is not for the faint of heart and should only be done by those that have experienced off trail hiking (and enjoy climbing over and around dead-fall). This will be a beautiful time of year being that it is summer in the White Mountains and a time to escape the heat in the valley.
