This month, not only do we have two interesting talks, but we're giving away books from O'Reilly and a Kindle Fire HD!
For our first talk, Amir Sehic, a Senior Technical Architect with Perficient (http://www.perficient.com/), will introduce audit logging in the cloud. Amir will discuss considerations, complexities, and advantages to cloud migration using audit logging as an example. This session will include the demonstration of a bare-bones centralized logging system built with Amazon EC2, RDS and SQS. In addition, he'll discuss the benefits and opportunities of using a design pattern in which log entry metadata (message, severity, priority, etc.) are maintained separately from the log entries.
During the second session, Tyler Renelle (twitter (https://twitter.com/lefnire), github (https://github.com/lefnire), website (http://about.me/lefnire)) will guide us through what it takes to run an open source project. This will most certainly be a full stack presentation, as Tyler will discuss how he successfully funded HabitRPG (https://habitrpg.com) as a Kickstarter project and grew an open source community around it (Node.js, github repo (https://github.com/HabitRPG/habitrpg)). He'll dig into both the technical and non-technical aspects of HabitRPG, discussing what made the Kickstarter palpable, hard lessons learned in open source, and all the dilemmas along the way.
The Kindle Fire HD 8.9" 32GB giveaway is graciously provided by Perficient (http://www.perficient.com/) [NASDAQ: PRFT], an enterprise technology consulting company. Perficient is one of the largest IBM, Microsoft, TIBCO, Oracle, and Salesforce.com partners in North America, with over 2,000 experts delivering business-driven technology solutions.
