Details

Several Meetup groups will hike to meet at Tripeaks by different routes, with varying degrees of difficulty:

The Valencia Hiking Crew: 7m/1,500'
The Thousand Oaks Hikers: 9m/1,700'
The Weekday Trailblazers: 10m/3,000'
The Calabasas Day Hikers: 12m/3,000'
Fun in the Sun Club: 13-15m/5,500'

We'll all have lunch together and spend time catching up with old friends, meeting new hikers and playing in the caves. It will be the Meetup event of the year!

The best way to describe our trek is in photos. We'll cover everything you see in the pics from 5/31/10, but in the opposite direction, PLUS, we'll do a couple more peaks than we did here:

In the link--click the date at the top to read the activity description for our 5/31 hike.

Our route is 13-16 miles/5,500', and hits 3 peaks before Tripeaks--Conejo Peak, Stegosaurus Ridge & Big Dome:

We'll complete a big loop including Balanced Rock, Mishe Mokwa Trail, Split Rock, Stegosaurus Ridge, Big Dome, Tripeaks, and descend Mountaineers Route. YES! We'll actually hike it downhill.

It's a difficult trek in parts, with some class 3 rock scrambling and steep inclines. You should be able to hike at my pace for this one.

Help keep our parks clean:
Just one piece of trash, that's all I ask. If we all take a plastic bag and pick up just one piece each on every hike, we do our part to help keep our parks clean. Robert and I usually fill up a bag each day on the trails, but even one piece each will make a difference over time.

Bring: Snacks, lunch, 3L+ water, the ten essentials (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ten_Essentials). Trekking poles a plus.
Wear: Layers, long pants & sleeves recommended for brush protection & ticks, hiking shoes/boots with lug soles.
Dogs: Sorry, no dogs because of mileage/elevation/class 3 rock scrambling and cross-country sections.
