Hike will always show "full" because participants are added from waitlist. To join this hike, add yourself to waitlist only if you can keep up with me or any of these hikers at their fastest pace:
Agi, Alison, Amy, Anna, Bob L, Bob Mc, 2 Christines, Darina, Diane, Elyse, Hallie, Holly, Irma, Jennifer, Karen, Karin, Kelly, Kimo, Lyman, Lynn, Mark, Mary, Norma, Paul, Rhonda, 2 Roberts, Ron, Shari, Sara. For those of you who have done strenuous trailblazing hikes with me, you've been referred to as Camille's Commandos--here (http://www.meetup.com/calabasasdayhikers/calendar/15540775/)and here (http://www.meetup.com/fun-in-the-sun-Oxnard/calendar/15541766/). So come on, Commandos; this hike is especially for you.
Q: What's a conditioning hike?
A: One where we sustain a fast pace to keep in shape for our 12-20 milers.
Robert and I will take you on a heart-thumping workout to the top of Liberty Canyon Natural Preserve. We'll then enjoy a respite on the ridgeline with 360 degree views of surrounding area. Our trek includes Phantom Trail and a cross-country brushy trail--probably one you've never seen. We've already hiked it a couple of times, so there's no trailblazing ... it's easy enough.
Time: You should aim to be there at 1:45PM. We'll leave when everyone arrives, or wait 15 minutes for you until 2:00PM. If you get there at 2:01PM, we'll be gone.
Stats: About 6 miles, 1,200'.
Terrain: Single track, fireroad, one xc brushy trail.
Level: Advanced because of pace of the Commandos.
Bring: Snack, water, first aid kit, camera, trekking poles if you like using them. We return before sunset, but you should always carry a headlamp (I have extras to lend).
Wear: Your best lug soles—helps on slippery areas and to grip rocks.
Dogs: Well behaved dogs welcome if you don't mind taking them on brushy trail (ticks). Open Space Rules (http://www.cosf.org/website/html/os-rules.html): Dogs must be restrained by a leash not exceeding six feet in length, and must be under control at all times..
Meeting Place: Will be emailed to "Yes" RSVP's.
Nearly a heart off the trail ... a view from our xc trail.
From our 2/9/11 Last Chance Trail to Sisar Cyn Hike, 2 miles north of Jackson Falls. I'll take you to the rock heart on our "First Chance for Last Chance Hike" ... coming to a Meetup near you soon.
