Join the Santa Barbara Outdoor Adventure Meetup and "The Santa Barbara County Outdoor Foundation" for a trail maintenance, brush clearing day at Zaca Lake Resort. From 9am to 3pm.
If you have never been to Zaca Lake this is a rare opportunity to experience this beautiful and historic outdoor space. It is considered a sacred site by the Chumash Indians and was a spiritual retreat for early westerners.
We will meet at the resort to clean, maintain, and brush two (or three) of the trails that lead into the Los Padres National Forest from Zaca Lake. For being a trail volunteer, your hours will be logged and you will be given credit by the Los Padres National Forest Service toward Adventure Passes! Yippee! =D
Zaca Lake is a private resort and we want to minimize traffic into the resort area so there will be one meet up location in Santa Barbara for parking and carpooling and two meet up locations for parking and carpooling in Santa Ynez.
You can either meet us at:
Mission Santa Barbara at 7:15am, located at 2201 Laguna St. S.B. Ca. Meeting Leta (long e) here for carpooling to Santa Ynez.
Stuart C, Gildred YMCA in Santa Ynez at 8:15 am, located at 900 N. Refugio Road (Corner of Refugio and Highway 246). Meeting Curt Cragg of the SB County Outdoor Foundation at this location.
The locked gate to the Zaca Lake Resort: located at 8000 Foxen Canyon Road at 8:45 am. Everyone will eventually meet here where Curt Cragg, SB County Outdoor Foundation will escort us through the gate and then lock the gate.
Note: Please be early or on time (not late). Once we enter the gate, as a group, it will be locked.
What to bring:
If you have them, trail tools such as rakes, McLeod shovels, loppers or pruners
Long sleeve shirts and pants (lots of poison oak in some areas)
Safety glasses or goggles
Plenty of water
We will also be providing additional tools and safety equipment as needed.
We need a head count so all volunteers must RSVP before the work day.
You will be required to sign a waiver that covers you on the Zaca Lake Resort property as well as a waiver provided by the Santa Barbara County Outdoor Foundation.
Join us, it’s going to be an awesome day!
