9/20/09 Serrano Valley

Since it's going to be in the 80's inland, let's beat the heat with a big loop around Point Mugu State Park ( . This might be our last chance for a 20-miler before Fall this year.

We'll go as far north as Wood Canyon and east to Serrano Valley. By the time it heats up, we'll be back near the ocean. See pics for trip highlights.

I'm taking guests, but all other participants must be signed up individually (no plus 1's) , thereby agreeing to Meetup's Release of Liability ... see section 6.2 here ( .

Estimated Stats: 20 miles/4,000'. I've never done this exact route before. You know I seldom (if ever?!) repeat hikes exactly. Too many trails, too many choices.

Level : Advanced. For Team-20 participants, this one isn't much of a workout after those mad-capped mountain adventures where we climbed 5,000' - 7,500'. Low elevation gain makes this one easy in comparison.

Trailblazing? No, I'm not the first on these trails.

Exploratory? Yes, some trails I haven't done in years, so I'll be checking the map and getting everyone to help.

Terrain: Fire road, single track, one steep/slippery section.

What's on the trail? Poison oak, ticks, some brush; picnic tables for lunch, portapotties, spigot water at mile markers 7 & 13.

We'll take a secret trail to get this view ... nice and breezy, but don't get too close to the edge!

Me eting Time : We leave promptly at 7:30AM. If you're lacing up your boots at 7:30AM, we'll be gone.

Bring: The ten essentials. Trekking poles a plus. Headlamp, water, snacks, food.

Wear : Layers, hiking shoes/boots with lug soles, long pants for poison oak protection. You might be okay with short sleeves.

# Participants : When leading, I prefer small groups. Feel free to post your own hike with more participants.

Directions : Will be emailed to participants.

Dogs : Sorry, this is a State Park so no dogs allowed.

From our 7/17/10 hike.

We'll go up this knife-edge ridgeline ...

... to get this great view.

Rhonda, Amy, Robert, David.
