Tonight we'll hike in the Lake Eleanor Open Space. You can read about the area here, although we'll cover a lot more ground than the short hike listed:
TRIVIA TREATS. We'll take a break, wait for hikers to catch up or catch their breath, and play our Trivia Treats game for edible prizes. Feel free to bring a trivia question to throw in the pot. Prizes could be full of sugar, gluten, dairy, nuts. Not suitable for allergy challenged. Extra prize for whoever can say this the best, 10 times: "A Lake I Like a Lot."
Meeting Place: Westlake Village --will be emailed to participants. There's a short shuttle for this hike.
Time: Arrive EARLIER and be ready to leave promptly at 5:30PM. If you get there at 5:31PM, we'll be gone.
Estimated Stats: 6.5 miles/1,400'.
Terrain: Single track, fireroad, brushy/rocky/slippery trails ... adventure hiking!
What's on the trail? Ticks, foxtails, thistle, snakes.
Level: Moderate, if you're used to the stats. You should be able to hike at a brisk pace. We'll stop for photos, wildlife, views.
Bring: Snack, water, first aid kit, trekking poles if you like using them. We should return before twilight ends, but you should always carry a headlamp. Optional: camera.
Wear: lug soles. Long pants/sleeves recommended for brush.
Dogs: Well behaved leashed dogs welcome. Open Space Rules (http://www.cosf.org/website/html/os-rules.html) : Dogs must be restrained by a leash not exceeding six feet in length, and must be under control at all times.
Hike location will be changed to Newbury Park or Camarillo if temps are forecast above 80 degrees.
