Let's do our Piedra Blanca Adventure before the rains come. Once it rains, we can't do this hike, as there are a few river crossings and our route is cross-country in streambeds. This might be our last chance to get there this year.
Anyone with a sense of adventure and wondering what it's like to step off a trail will enjoy this respite in the wilderness. It's cross-country, trailblazing, bushwacking, secret trails, rock scrambling (easy), and exploratory ... it's everything an adventure should be.
On our hike here last year, we found a new route to get up to my Lunchtime Labyrinth and avoid poison oak. Our new route included thick brush, (including manzanita), and slowed our pace to 1mph. Robert and I are taking a group there on 11/5 to see if our route is still open (not posted here though ... contact me for info).
The bushwacking is worth it, because once we get up on top of the massive white rocks, it's playtime. Everyone will have a say in where to go/what to explore. See a rock you want to reach? Yes! We'll go there. This is your hike and your playtime and you can be the trailblazer.
We'll trek over nearly the full range of the rocks, exploring nooks and crannies as we go, while enjoying 360 degree views of the gorgeous Sespe Wilderness.
Please do not sign up if you have been a "no show" at any Meetup, or your RSVP will be changed to "no." The number of participants is kept small so we can trailblaze with ease, so preference given to those who show up when they sign up. Thanks!

Parking:An adventure pass (http://www.fs.fed.us/r5/sanbernardino/ap/vendors.php) is required for parking, and must be purchased in advance. $5 per day or $30 annual, available in sports stores.
Meeting Place/Time: You can either meet at the trailhead (end of Rose Valley Rd, Ojai), at 9:30AM, or in Ventura to carpool at 8:30AM. Detailed directions will be emailed to participants.
Stats: Loop, under 8 miles/under 1,000'.
# Participants: Group kept small so trailblazing can be accomplished more easily.
Terrain: Several river crossings (with stepping stones), single track, rocky streambed, cross country through brush, steep inclines, class 3 rock scrambling, possible poison oak.
Level: Depends on your experience. If you're used to 8 miles, trailblazing, and bushwacking, this one is pretty easy. If not, this one will challenge you. I think it's a good beginner trailblazer hike because it's less than 8 miles/1,000'.
Bring: Snacks, lunch, 3+ liters water, the 10 essentials (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ten_Essentials), gloves for rock scrambling, poison oak & brush protection. Don’t forget a headlamp and your camera.
Wear: Long pants and sleeves for poison oak and brush protection.
Dogs: Sorry, no dogs for this one. See Meetup's Release of Liability (http://www.meetup.com/terms/), particularly the last paragraph and section 6.2.
