From our 11/16/10 hike.

This hike is best described in pics, so check out last year's outing:

"Is that Boney Peak? Is that one Boney Mountain?" It's a mystery to many, but today it will be solved. The whole mountain range is Boney Mountain, but there's only one Boney Peak, reached by trailblazing through brush, and a bit of class 3 rock climbing to get to the very top.

I've been on hikes in Circle X Ranch Boney Mountain Wilderness where leaders take us to what they call Boney Peak, but they're actually taking us to Big Dome (2,900'), north-east of Tripeaks, just off the trail up from Danielson Monument (that Rutted Road/Gully Trail). So here's your chance to get to the elusive Boney Peak (2,830')--you'll be on the real McCoy! It's in a completely different area from Big Dome and the views of the ocean are spectacular from here.

We'll take a different route from last year and hike includes trailblazing. Suitable only for strong adventurers who don't mind being jabbed by brush from all angles.

Trailblazing? Exploratory? Bushwacking? Yes, yes, yes ... it's a triple treat!

Estimated Stats: 8-11 miles/2,500-2,800'.

Pace: As slow as 1mph in extreme brushy parts, leisurely in general, with lots of stops for photos, wildlife, views, and a rest stop on top of all the rocky outcroppings.

Level: This hike will suit you if you if you've done trailblazing with me before, or if you want to try it for the first time.

Time: Arrive earlier and be ready to leave promptly at 8:00AM.

Meeting Place: Will be emailed to participants.

Bring: Water, snacks, lunch, first aid kit, the 10 essentials. We should return before sunset, but you should always have a headlamp. I have extras to lend. Optional: camera, trekking poles if you like using them.

Wear: Layers/jacket (it can get chilly), lug soles/hiking shoes, hat. For trailblazing: long pants and sleeves, gloves (gardening gloves are fine). Your clothes may get ripped, but better them than you.

Dogs: Sorry, no dogs for this one. Contact me if you want a dog hike, and I'll post one especially for you.

I'm bringing guests, but everyone else should be signed up individually.

No guests or "plus ones" please. For liability reasons we must have everyone join the group, and agree to the standard Meetup "Terms of Service", especially section 6.2, here (http://www.meetup.com/terms/). Do not show up for this hike if you're not on the "Attending" list.
