Needs a location
Are you willing to take turns hosting the Women's Weekly Workout Hikes? You don't need to attend regularly. Come along once in a while if you like. As long as you agree to host about 6 hikes this year, you can join us.
Be prepared on sign up to say when you can host--Thursdays in Sept, Wednesdays in Oct. Hosts have priority to choose a route and get help with map reading. Or leave it to others to choose. We have plenty ideas where to go! Hosts don’t need experience, nor do they need to know the trails. There’s no chance of getting lost because there's always someone who knows the area. Fed up with the same old/same old trails? Then this is the perfect opportunity if you'd like to explore and find new loop or "out and back" hikes. We always like to take the road less traveled, and our emphasis is on taking the route we know the least. Since it's so hot inland, this month we'll head to the beach, covering different sections weekly to conquer most of the Ventura county coastline.
Trailblazing: No, nothing new here; plenty people have walked these areas.
Terrain: Sand, asphalt, boardwalk.
Type of Hike: Leader's choice, anything possible, won't know until we get there. Be prepared for anything
Do not sign up if you've been a "no show at any Meetup." Directions will not be mailed to "no shows."
Please, no guests. You must be signed up at Fun in the Sun Club Meetup, thereby agreeing to Meetup's Release of Liability (http://www.meetup.com/terms/). Don't show up without signing up here first. Thank you.
Start Time: Arrive EARLIER. It's a good idea to be there at 7:45AM so if you get lost or there's traffic, you'll still be on time. We'll leave when everyone arrives and wait until 8:00AM at the latest. If you're lacing up your boots at 8:00AM, we'll be gone.
Meeting Place in Ventura, Oxnard or Port Hueneme: Will be sent to participants by day before hike.
Estimated Stats: 8-12 miles, 200'-600'. We usually finish before 12:30PM.
Pace: 3mph moving average, 2.6mph overall average, sometimes considered a very brisk pace but it's all relative.
Bring: Easy to eat snacks (we take VERY short breaks--seldom more than 5 mins), plenty water, first aid kit, sunscreen, trekking poles if you like using them.
Wear: Layers, hat, shoes that are comfortable for beach, boardwalk and asphalt. You may want to go barefoot on beach.
Dogs: Sorry, no dogs for this one. Some areas don't allow them.
Leave nothing of value in your vehicle at any trailhead.
