Cultivating ourselves wouldn't be transhuman. It would be more of an optimized human. I'm young enough to not have to worry too much about my body breaking down before technology develops enough to extend my lifespan (I'll be 55 in 2030). Even if these developments take longer than expected, I am fortunately ahead of the curve of an ever extending human life expectancy. Besides, even a near perfection of biological optimization is dwarfed in comparison to changing mind substrates and moving to a non-biological physical body. Once these technologies mature, biology will very rapidly become obsolete. I'm not staying in this "meat computer" one day longer than neccessary. If I ever miss it, I can always manifest my nano-cloud into a similar body or spend a few hours in a simulation....
