Announcing a new Meetup for Games Gateway - U.S. Mid Atlantic Region!

Hello fellow Games Gateway members -

It has been a few months but I am delighted to kick off the Spring with an insightful talk about one of the most talked about forms of games - AR. Gene Koo - who has been involved in a number of serious games formats will take us through his philosophy and observations regarding this genre and its messaging power.

I look forward to seeing you all there,
GG Chief Instigator

What: Games with Real-world Impact - Augmented Reality That Can Change The World

When: Thursday, April 15,[masked]:00 PM

Blue State Digital
734 15th St NW, Suite 1200 Next to Lafayette Park / White House.
Washington DC, DC 20005

Can games change the world? As researchers debate whether lessons learned in educational ?games for change? translate into real-world actions, I suggest we skip the theory and go straight towards games that directly shape behaviors. I?m talking about ?augmented reality games? that have a pro-social purpose. From the Toyota Prius to, game mechanisms can change the way we perceive the world and our actions within it. (Or just jump into the iPhone app, FourSquare).

Come join a talk with Gene Koo about the power and impact of games and how they can be used.

About Gene Koo: I?m currently a senior strategist with Blue State Digital, the firm behind and other innovative campaigns. I also contributed to the forthcoming book, ?Ethics and Game Design: Teaching Values Through Play.? While a Fellow at the Harvard Berkman Center for Internet & Society, I put together an experimental program called Hub2 to use video game tools to augment urban design; the program was a winner of the 2009 MacArthur Foundation Digital Media & Learning competition. I co-organized the Boston chapter of Games for Change, and look forward to working with the DC community on how games can power positive social change.
