2. Good Member Guide

climb on

what we expect from our members

Thanks for joining Get Out Philadelphia! Being a "Good Member" of Get Out Philly
means that you are taking a bit of ownership in the group and of what we do.
We are a community, and our organizers are all volunteers. When you respect these guidelines,
you're making the group more manageable and a better place for everyone.
cool

  • Please, RSVP Responsibly.
  • If you RSVP "Yes," please show up! When we are promising an outfitter or venue a certain number of people, we need to provide that number, or cost may come out of the organizer's pockets. This is not respectful of the organizers' time, nor to the community. If there is a waiting list, you are keeping someone else from attending. Three no-shows may result in your removal from the group.

  • Rate the Event.
  • After the event is over, Meetup.com will send you a survey and ask you to rate it. An accurate review of your experience helps us do things better, although please remember we have little control over things like a particular venue or the weather. Thanks for taking the time to send feedback.

  • Carpool!
  • We are an earth-friendly group. Please do your part. Most organizers will post carpool spreadsheets for activities outside the city; these make it easy to see where rides are leaving from and where they are needed. Passengers are expected to pick up all, if not most, of the cost of gas and tolls for the driver, at the discretion of the driver. Drivers are expected to be fair in their estimate of gas costs.

  • Respect other members of the community.
  • We are not a singles' group, and are focused on meeting in person. Pick-up or hook-up comments and emails to people you don't know are often considered unwelcome in the Meetup.com community, and anyone who feels harassed or threatened should report these comments to an organizer. Rudeness is also not tolerated. Neither is spam; please do not join the group for the sole purpose of promoting your business or fundraising for your charity race. We expect you to participate in our activities as well. We welcome ages 21-91 and all nationalities.

  • Suggest and participate wherever possible.
  • We're always looking for new ideas, message board and event feedback, pros or experts in outdoor related fields, and Activity Leaders! It's what made us such a great community. If you've got a great idea for a trip and want to get together with our group, post it as an "Idea" and we'll make it happen!

Please use the group message board to promote your individual events, programs, businesses or services. The Ideas feature is NOT appropriate for these types of posts.

The organizers reserve all rights to remove members from the group. A member may be removed for:

    • Inappropriate comments or messages on the message board or to a group member
    • Too much off topic (i.e. spam) comments or emails or ideas.
    • No-Shows: Three strikes, you're out. If the event is free or payment is not collected in advance, your RSVP is on the honor system: if you say you'll be there, we will be expecting you. Please be respectful of the time an organizer puts into an event, and change your RSVP if you won't be able to attend.

We will always give fair warning if we need to remove you from the group, with the exception of bodily or sexual harassment or threats; in those situations you will be removed immediately and reported to Meetup.com. if you are being spammed or otherwise harassed by a member, report them (forwarding the email is the best way) to abuse@meetup.com, and please inform one of the organizers.
