Head up the large stone staircase within the central glass atrium of Brookfield Place. Our security desk is on the second level between Hudson Eats and Equinox. We'll have a designated sign-in table for the classes, clearly marked with HBC Tech.

This 4-class HTML/CSS course runs back-to-back on Monday/Wednesday for two consecutive weeks.

If you're just learning to code, interested in web development, comfortable with CMSs like Wordpress and Tumblr but craving more control, this is the class for you!

We will guide you through the basics of HTML and CSS, give you some readily-applicable skills, and answer any questions you may have along the way. This is an introductory course that covers the basics of building a website.

TOPICS COVERED:

• Class 1, Introduction to HTML: Mon Dec 10th, 7-9pm

• Class 2, Introduction to CSS: Wed Dec 12th, 7-9pm

• Class 3, HTML, beyond the basics: Mon Dec 17th, 7-9pm

• Class 4, CSS, layouts and formatting: Wed Dec 19th, 7-9pm

TECH REQUIREMENTS:

Your laptop and charger. Note: A netbook or tablet is NOT a substitute.

Please install the following free software prior to class (if you run into problems, we will help you at the beginning of our first session):

1) Chrome (https://www.google.com/chrome/browser/desktop/)

2) Sublime Text 3 (http://www.sublimetext.com/3) (If you have a text editor like Atom, Textmate, etc, you're welcome to use that. Word processors like Microsoft Word and Pages cannot be used.)

We have 100% no drop-ins policy. Students that have not registered on Meetup before the class will not be accepted into the class. Please do not show up to a class without registering via Meetup, you will be turned away.

ABOUT THE TEACHER:
After receiving a BS and Masters in Biology, Mahdi discovered his passion for programming and began his journey as a self-taught programmer.
For the past 5 years, he has been teaching and creating technical curriculum for students in middle school and high school.
Mahdi works as the Curriculum Manager at All Star Code, a non-profit focused on creating economic opportunity by developing a new generation of boys and young men of color with an entrepreneurial mindset who have the tools they need to succeed in a technological world.
