Rasmus Lerdorf at NolaPHP

  • Dec 9, 2010 · 7:00 PM
  • LaunchPad

Here's a very special event for all you PHP coders out there. Coders in general actually. NOLA PHP will host Rasmus Lerdorf, the creator of PHP, at their Monthly meeting on December 9th at 7:00 PM. I'm adding the full description and link below, but you can RSVP to this gnocode event if you don't want to join their meetup. Here is the full description and link: "Ok, so we're NOT back on schedule for December. heh. We've changed the date for the December NOLAPHP MeetUp to 12/9 - but we have a VERY GOOD reason! Rasmus Lerdorf, creator of the PHP programming language, will be joining us as a special guest! He will be in town, and sought out our group to join us for one of our meetups. The topic will most likely be his thoughts on the current state of PHP and where he thinks it's going, following by a QA session. It's still at LaunchPad @ 7PM, but now on Thursday 12/9. And, for this special occasion, pizza, drinks and beer will be provided." Thanks, Barrett M. Conrad

This was a great dialogue with Rasmus, with great insights into the mind of the father of PHP. I especially liked that he was a true engineer at heart, wanting to solve real problems and not programming for programming's sake.

One of the best MeetUps and user groups meetings I have ever been to in all the years I have been programming. (including those on the West Coast and S.F. Bay Area) This guy is NOT afraid to say how things are, and methods and philosophies by which he programs by. And this is not to mention what he thinks of things like Agile and Test Driven Development. OUCH!!!!

I definitely know now that I am not alone in the way I develop, program and design systems as well as think. (i.e. I guess I won't need to be so polite and P.C. like I was in the past! Who DAT say 'Agile' is a SHAM???? Owwwww!!!!)
