Are your kids hacking yet? Join us for GOTO Junior Workshops for Kids, a set of coding workshops for kids aged 8-13 years old. These are afternoon workshops run by experienced trainers and kids get a chance to learn and play with software programming. There are four half day workshops to choose from and we will provide snacks and beverages for kids who attend. Each participant will need to choose one workshop to attend upon registration. There is a $25 registration fee to attend. Registration opens at noon and the workshops run from 1:00 PM - 5:00 PM.

The GOTO Jr Workshops for Kids include:

Learning HTML: With kids growing up in a digital world, learning HTML is almost as important as learning a second language. In this course, kids will learn the fundamentals of HTML and CSS by creating their own basic personal Web site. Kids will learn how the basics of HTML element tags, and how to style elements on the page using Cascading Style Sheets (CSS). By the time your kids are done, they will be able to upload their project and have a working personal Web page!
For this course: we will be using USB drives and the computer lab - so no laptop or computer needed. The only requirement is that the child is able to read, as they will need to write HTML.

Build An App!: Ever wonder what goes into those apps that you play on your phones and tablets? Have you ever played tic-tac-toe, hide and seek, or battleship? Come and learn how to build an app while playing games. This course will teach app building using open source tools that anyone can download for free at home like Apache Cordova. Cordova allows students to use any previous knowledge of HTML (for example from last years’ HTML5 course) and a touch of JavaScript to build full-functioning apps that can run on a phone or tablet. Students should bring a laptop to write their code. Android tablets will be provided for students to test their apps. Come do some Game Driven Development with Open Source!

Let's mod Minecraft!: Have you installed your own mods on minecraft? Do you ever wonder how to create one? In this session we take the popular game of Minecraft and walk through simple minecraft modding by using Java. We will learn what programs are, how minecraft is built, and work with Coding concepts like object-oriented programming, compiling executing, and cartesian coordinates, all while spawning unlimited enderDragons, creating flaming arrows and in general bending the minecraft world at our will.

Intro to Raspberry Pi Robotics: Low powered computing devices have become wildly popular with people of all ages over the past few year. Each form factor has its advantages based upon your project goals. The Hak4Kidz trainers will introduce you to the Raspberry Pi. A Raspberry Pi is a deck of card-sized computer that you can hold in your hand - it can connect to the Internet and run programs, much like a desktop computer or a laptop. In this workshop, you will be introduced to the Raspberry Pi features, how to gain access to the Raspberry Pi using Secure Shell (SSH) and programming the Pi with Python. You will also use a Raspberry Pi to electronically control a mechanical object (such as a servo motor). Raspberry Pi’s can also be used to control robot-like objects and electronics projects.

We are excited to partner with Hak4Kidz ( on these workshops! Hak4Kidz is an event of ethical hackers and Information Security professionals dedicated to bring the educational and communal benefits of white hat hacking conferences to children and young adults.
