I'd like to tell you about a meetup that should be of interests to our members - a meetup called DevOps PaaS Infusion is having a Groovy vs Ruby for Devops meeting in two weeks. The company associated with that meetup, GigaSpaces (I mentioned it on Monday), chose Groovy as the foundation for their open source project Cloudify. Cloudify is a platform for deploying and managing apps on the cloud (think RightScale, with Groovy based "recipes").
They are looking for more Groovy experts to speak at their event. If you feel you are a Groovy maven and are willing to share, especially if you are using Groovy for DevOps, please contact Uri, [address removed]. From Uri: Since right now DevOps is largely dominated by Ruby (Chef, Puppet and others), I think we need to show that Groovy has a few things to offer as well :) the idea is to bring in a Ruby specialist and a Groovy specialist, and throw down a few topics for discussion, e.g. portability, file system and other admin operations support, external process management, security, speed, echo system, etc.
