The full moon in July 2025, also known as the "Buck Moon".

The full Moon in July is called the Buck Moon because the antlers of male deer (bucks) are in full-growth mode at this time. Bucks shed and regrow their antlers each year, producing a larger and more impressive set as the years go by.
The full moon always lies opposite the sun in the sky. Consequently, it is visible all night. All full moons rise along the eastern horizon close to the time of sunset. Likewise, all full moons set along the western horizon close to the time of sunrise. At full moon, the sun, Earth, and the moon align in space, with Earth in the middle. And, the moon’s day side – its fully lighted hemisphere – directly faces us. That is why the moon appears full.

We schedule the moonwalk when the moon can be seen in the Early evening. So you can be home and be tucked into bed.

Hike distance is 2-21/2 miles and 1-1/2 - 2 hours with time for a bite to eat afterwards.

Flashlight or lighting is required. Wear appropriate hiking gear and clothing bring water to hydrate.
