More Dog Events Added to the September Calendar and Beyond

The weekend of September 29th-30th just got busier with two more events added to our calendar for Saturday, September 29th.  The Best Friends Animal Society is hosting it's First Annual Austin Strut Your Mutt Walk at Mueller Lake Park near the Dell Children's Hospital.  Pre-register on-line or register that morning beginning at 7:00 am with the walk to begin at 8:30 and a festival that lasts till noon.  Participants can walk as an individual or in "dog packs" with all proceeds benefiting local rescue groups such as Austin Pets Alive and Big Dog Rescue.

Then the Central Texas SPCA is having it's 10th Annual Barktoberfest that same morning at Old Settler's Park in Round Rock.  It's a 3K Pledge Walk and festival.  Pre-register on-line or register that morning at 9:30.  The walk begins at 10:00 and the festival lasts till 2:00.   So you've got a choice of dog walks/festivals either in Austin or Round Rock that day.  Better yet, hit the Strut Your Mutt earlier Saturday morning and check out Barktoberfest later in the morning or afternoon.  Go to our website for each event for links to register and get more information.

Then go home, take a little rest and come back out to the fabulous VIP Reception that Saturday evening at the Westin Hotel in the Domain to kick off Texas Puppy Mill Awareness Day (PMAD) weekend.  Your $30 donation includes drinks and appetizers.  There will be celebrity guests and a live and silent auction.  We'd love to see more of you RSVP for this event since it is organized by our own member Courtney Leigh and hosted by PAWS of Austin.  Go to www.pawsofaustin.organd click on Calendar of Events/Special Events for a link to get your tickets through Paypal.  We can't bring the pups to the reception, but we can definitely bring them out the next day Sunday the 30th to the big and FREE Puppy Mill Awareness Day Festival at Fiesta Gardens.  Let's get lots of members to come on out and show off our big furkids and enjoy the festivities which include music, vendor booths and other activities for the family.

Fall is the busiest time of year in Austin for dog events, so check the website and save the dates for these upcoming dog-related events:  PetFest in San Marcos on October 6th, the Midtown Mutt-Minster Dog Show on October 7th, Dogtoberfest at the Domain on October 21st, Howl'oween at the Hill Country Galleria on October 28th and Snout by Snoutwest on November 4th.  Oh yeah, we'll throw in some park meetups in the middle of all those too.  Guess we'll be seeing lots of each other this coming fall!
