This was just confirmed now, after the latest reminder went out!
Our special guest this month is Courtney Hare of Thrive, Calgary's Community Economic Development organization. She will be there to promote the Pathways to Sustainability conference and the Community Showcase, with which we are partnering at the end of the month.
"Learn more about the Sustainability Community Showcase that is part of the Pathways 2 Sustainability Conference. This event is free and open to the public and the host location for the next Green Drinks. Ten PechaKucha style presenters will speak to the theme of "Thrive" - connecting environmental, social, cultural, and economic sustainability. These presenters were crowd sourced and crowd chosen by the public who voted for the top ten.
There will be food, beverage, networking and Q&A with the presenters. Participants will walk away inspired and equipped to apply the ideas presented to their own work and life. Hosted by Mark Hopkins, community builder, change agent, connector, and Co-Artistic Director of Swallow-a-Bicycle Theatre. This is an excellent opportunity for Green Drinks members to connect! Presented by Thrive and First Calgary Financial."
Green Drinks Calgary is a monthly event that brings together environmentally-minded Calgarians in a relaxed, agenda-free evening of networking and merriment. Whether you work in the environmental field or are just breaking in, it's a chance to mingle with a lively mixture of people from NGOs, academia, government and business, share information and make friends. Although Green Drinks Calgary is an organic, casual event, many people have found employment, developed new ideas, made business connections, and had moments of serendipity! We join together the Calgary environmental community and have fun doing it! Bring your friends and ideas - everyone is welcome!
Please RSVP to help us and the venue know how many are coming. This allows them to adjust their staffing if needed, which only means better service for you in the end. You can also find out who else is coming out to the events.
You are responsible for your own food and drinks. You can set up a tab with credit card or pay for every drink as you get it ("cash n' carry"). 18% group gratuity has been requested (if not, please tip).
from Brewmaster Alan Yule,
"Try a Pint from a Live Cask of Brew Brothers Brewery’s Tumblewheat Ale
Our Tumblewheat Ale is a Canadian–style unfiltered (cloudy) wheat beer. It has been re-fermented in a firkin (a 9 imperial gallon cask) with a special Bavarian-style wheat beer yeast, and dry hopped with a bunch of German Hallertau hops.
The re-fermentation and dry hop addition have produced a smooth, naturally carbonated wheat beer with tart wheat notes, some spicy character from the Bavarian-style yeast, and a pleasant floral hop aroma.
There is, however, a secret ingredient in the cask, and it’s not very subtle. Taste the beer - can you guess what it is? Rob S. the GM at Craft, has been bugging us for ages to make a cask like this (secret ingredient hint - Rob’s half Hawaiian on his father’s friend’s side you know) so we figured we better try one and keep him happy!
The cask beer will be served through a beer engine right off the bar, so enjoy your “live cask-conditioned real ale”.
