POSTPONED: GRWebDev Presents Ryan Weaver: A Crash Course into Modern JavaScript

GRWebDev powered by LaFleur presents Ryan Weaver:
A Crash Course into Modern JavaScript

This meetup has been postponed to a later date (to be announced).

JavaScript used to be so cute! It was all "var foo = true" this and "document.getElementById(‘header’).fadeIn()" that. But needless to say: things have changed. Now we work with frameworks like Vue.js & React, new syntaxes are appearing, such as the () => function and "class" keyword, and something called Webpack is "compiling" our code. We've come a long way since 1995!

During this presentation, we'll walk through all of this: tracing through the most important new features of JavaScript (now called ECMAScript!), where they came from, and why you should care. We'll also dive into the mysteries of Webpack, browser support and more. Whether you're coding in React, Vue.js or plain ol' vanilla JavaScript, these tools will unlock your path to modern JavaScript development.

Ryan is a member of the Symfony core team, where he holds the vital yet unenviable role of documentation lead. He also writes content for SymfonyCasts at When it comes to code, he's all about developer experience: how can we get great tools into the hands of more people... and hopefully make it really fun along the way.

This month's meetup is graciously sponsored by SymfonyCasts. SymfonyCasts features more than ninety video tutorial courses covering a wide range of topics such as REST APIs, PHP and Drupal, Object-Oriented Programming, JavaScript, and (of course) Symfony.
