Monthly RCR coffee and discussion (100 Foot Journey)

This is the monthly meetup for chatting about our latest read, "The Hundred-Foot Journey" by Richard C. Morais.

"Born above his grandfather’s modest restaurant in Mumbai, Hassan first experienced life through intoxicating whiffs of spicy fish curry, trips to the local markets, and gourmet outings with his mother. But when tragedy pushes the family out of India, they console themselves by eating their way around the world, eventually settling in Lumière, a small village in the French Alps.

The boisterous Haji family takes Lumière by storm. They open an inexpensive Indian restaurant opposite an esteemed French relais—that of the famous chef Madame Mallory—and infuse the sleepy town with the spices of India, transforming the lives of its eccentric villagers and infuriating their celebrated neighbor. Only after Madame Mallory wages culinary war with the immigrant family, does she finally agree to mentor young Hassan, leading him to Paris, the launch of his own restaurant, and a slew of new adventures.

We'll also decide what to read for the next month, so come armed with suggestions for the next book!

If you are new to the group or just not managed to come out for a coffee, we'd love to meet you. It's a lighthearted informal group.

Some books we liked, some we did not, and we're not afraid to give our own opinions (especially if they are not shared by the rest of the group!)

*** NEW FOR 2014 ***

Our meetup day has changed to SUNDAY. That's the last Sunday of every month, 1pm at the Williams coffee pub near the Metro at Stone/Edinburgh in Guelph.

I don't think we'll chat about this book, as I don't think anyone managed to get hold of it. We'll chat about it in a couple of months - so please keep trying to read it.

Tomorrow at the meetup we'll decide on a book for May that will definitely be available!

I couldn't get the book either. I'm #2 on the list. I'll talk about it and the new one next month. Could we maybe decide on the next few in order to get them in time for those of us who borrow them from the library?
