Every December the people of Rottingdean celebrate their dark smuggling past with a festival - Join me for a winter stroll around the quaint village of Rottingdean near Brighton , and find out about the smugglers tales and the life and times of one of the greatest authors of the 20th century , Rudyard Kipling .
Kipling lived here for 5 years , from[masked] and wrote some of his finest work here , including Stalky and Co , and the Just So stories . We will explore his house and gardens , learn about the smuggling trade that went on , and discover some of the famous artists who made Rottingdean their home . The festival starts at 6.00 pm with a torchlit procession later
If this is your first tour it's free ( £ 10 for a year of tours after that ) , and children are always free too
Here's the full explanation of how the group works
Hello everyone new and old ,
I've been running the group for nearly two years now and its gone from nothing to nearly 2500 members which is amazing . The way the group has worked up until now has been that members pay £5 for each tour they wish to go on .
As I now do 11 different walks ( and more in the pipeline ) , I want to include everyone in the same deal that I tried out in the summer.
So here's how things will work from now on and I hope you'll agree that it is a good way of doing things . Those members who have just joined , or those who haven't yet been on a tour , your first tour is going to be free !! This gives you a chance to see what it's all about - I'm confident ( and the great reviews will back me up here ) that you will enjoy the experience and want to do more ( 5 of the tours are all in the Brighton area ).
After your first free tour , if you want to go on more , I'm going to ask everyone to sign up for a £10 membership card that gives you a whole year of tours . You can pay for this online or pay me when you come on your next tour .
If you've already been on some of my tours then you can simply sign up now or get the card on your next tour . Those of you with "old " membership cards from the summer , I will exchange them ( free ) for new ones , from Oct 16 to Oct 17 , so that we all start at the same point .
