The ABC Tour About Brighton Cats Tour

From Cat Creep to the Flowery Floofa and Brumell, not forgetting George the Pavilion Cat, we explore all things catty in Brighton.

Starting from outside Captain Seadogs Barbershop north of the Level, we slink our way from the cat creep off the Upper Lewes Road before reluctantly passing St Bartholomew's Church and then meandering slowly down to the seafront (Old Steine).

This is a tour of about 5,000 steps, some steep (and stepped) inclines. Duration: around 60 minutes.

Cats have been involved in the planning. Make sure you have your cat’s permission to attend. Please also bear in mind that there is a real risk of hearing about aspects of Brighton’s wider story and past - of no interest to cats whatsoever.

Russ is a regular Guest Tour Guide and as a local he is very entertaining and knowledgeable.

On this tour we set out to see the sights and places of the city from a ‘different’ perspective. There’s an element of ‘hidden in plain sight,’ of looking back, of looking again, and maybe of taking the paths less trodden.
A 60 minute tour starting at the entrance to the Corn Exchange, taking in the seafront before finishing at that celebrated tourist icon: Churchill Square…..

The film Quadrophenia starts in London in 1964, a time when the working class youth broadly aligned themselves with one of two factions who frequently engaged in gang brawls with each other. The Mods wore sharp suits, listened to current British pop and American soul music, took amphetamines and rode scooters. The Rockers rode powerful British motorcycles such as Triumph and BSA, wore black leather jackets and listened to 1950's American rock 'n' roll.

The film released in 1979 stars Phil Daniels as Jimmy Cooper, a young mod who escapes from his dead-end job as a postroom boy by dancing, partying, taking amphetamines, riding his scooter and brawling with Rockers. After he and his friends participate in a huge brawl with the Rockers at the seaside town of Brighton, he is arrested and his life starts to spiral out of control; he loses his love interest (Leslie Ash), gets kicked out of his house by his parents and discovers that his idol, the popular, successful mod nicknamed Ace Face (Sting), is actually a bellboy at a Brighton hotel.

I’ll be taking you on a Route that highlights key moments in this iconic film with a visit to the famous Quadrophenia Alley.
