December Open Mic

Welcome everyone. Sign up around 6:30ish. Playing starts 7-ish.

Please remember that everyone who comes has to drop 5 bucks in the bucket whether you play or not. We have to pay the Ella sound guy and other group expenses. And please no backing tracks, loopers, harmonizers, iPads and other plug-in pedally sort of things. With so many people waiting to play, experience has shown it simply takes too long to set and up and take down and we'd like to get to everyone as quickly as possible. Thanks.

It was my first time attending. Got there after 8pm. Everyone was warm and inviting, following the lead of Emily and the MC ("Chris" I believe and later, Stephan). I didn't perform because I got lost getting there due to my childlike sense of direction that I have lived with all my life.... It's like "direction dyslexia". If someone says: "make a left and then a right", my brain hears: "make a right and then a left". So terrible that by the time I arrived, I was exhausted! But I enjoyed watching all the various kinds of guitarist. My favorite was a woman from a European country (visiting, I guess), who was introduced as "a professional guitar player". Sorry, I don't remember her name but she was my favorite. She's "performing at the Sidewalk Cafe Thursday". I did think $10 for a glass (small) of White Wine was expensive for the venue... I'm looking forward to their next meet-up in January. I plan to be there. You should too!

Wonderful and wonderfully diverse. Guitarist/songwriters from Denmark, Malaysia, Philipines, Brooklyn and the Bronx.

I fall in and out of guitar, I'm in my late 40's - not looking to be a bigtime star, but hopefully, one day - a 'small time' star.

Would like to meet other guitar players that live close by (I live in Middle Village Queens) to jam with. Shoot me an email if you're interested - [masked]

    Hey Ivan,

Welcome to the group! generally the range runs from covers of popular songs to completely original music. There are really no limitations, except that you are limited to 2 songs or roughly 8 minutes in total. No extra sound effects/pedals, just plug in and play! We are an extremely supportive group and no one will judge you on your playing. We welcome all kinds of talent and hope that you will make it on December 11th!

What kind of music people usually play on such events and on that in December 11 particular?
