Join us on Saturday, August 16 for a tour of the Two Mississippi Museums! Although we are an atheistic community, humanism is often legally recognized as a faith group, for lack of a better category. As such, we are able to take advantage of the Lilly Endowment grant to provide free admission for faith-affiliated group visits. We will meet at 12:30pm for an introduction, after which we can explore the museum in whatever groups desired.
There are two museums on the campus, the Museum of Mississippi History and the Mississippi Civil Rights Museum. Opening hours are 9:00am to 5:00pm, and the average time to explore both museums is 2.5 to 3 hours. Included is the Hurricane Katrina: Mississippi Remembers, Photographs by Melody Golding exhibit, which opened on March 8 and closes November 7.
I am looking forward to learning more about our history with others who seek to take an active role in the fight for a world in which every individual’s worth and dignity is respected, nurtured, and supported, and where human freedom and ethical responsibility are natural aspirations for everyone.
Please post on the Facebook event or in the Discord if you are looking for others interested in carpooling or meeting for lunch prior to the meetup. We will hold a poll on Facebook to decide on a group lunch location at 11am, for all who are interested.
Free parking can be found alongside North Street or in the visitor garage of the Two Mississippi Museums on Jefferson Street. Information on directions and parking can be found here:
