Thanks everyone for coming out this fine morning...looks like we enjoyed ourselves despite the toughness of the hike. I appreciate the kind comments below. Special shout out to Vinny/Scott for sweeping, as well as the drivers. See you later!

    Hi everyone!

For those meeting at Bushnell's Basin Park & Ride, please be there by 8:00. We'll figure out rides and go from there. The hike will start from the southern parking area on Rt. 64, about 1/2 mile south of Bristol Mt. ski area (near the junction of County Rt. 33). It's a gravel parking lot with a wooden information board which will be on the left if you're driving from the north. If you're meeting us there, please be there so we can start hiking at 8:45 am.

Forgot to mention, there's another parking lot for Stid Hill north of Bristol Mt. but there's a sign at that one that says "Trail Closed" as a result of the flooding rains last month. Don't park there.

As far as what to bring: boots (sneakers probably won't work), poles if you have them, plenty of water, snacks, and a sense of adventure. I also suggest wearing long pants, as parts of the trail are overgrown. There is some mud, but hopefully it won't rain much this week.

Any questions, please don't hesitate to ask. See you Saturday!

The hike itself is a strenuous one: it starts off mellow but is then very steep and rough for a mile or so. Coming back we'll take a different route which isn't as bad, but still pretty steep. The pace on these sections will be slow. Otherwise there are a few more ups and downs. If your summer plans involve any Adirondack hiking, think of this as a training exercise for that.

I am curious about this hike. I am a novice and brand new to the club. Is this a good one to start with? If so, what kind of equipment do you suggest someone bring?

    June 9, 2014

    • Ryan B.

Hi Jeff -- as far as equipment, boots, poles (if you have them), plenty of water, and a snack. Honestly, if you are a novice to hiking, then this probably isn't a good one to start with. It has several steep and rough sections, and a 1200' elevation gain between the bottom and top of the hill. Hope this information helps!

I've been wanting to hike at Stid Hill for a while and haven't made it there yet. Sadly, I can't make this hike because we'll be at a wedding in Virginia. I hope you have fun and that I can get down there to check it out at some point!

That's too bad that you can't make it. I am still in the process of scouting this but I think you'd love it...there are parts that make Hi Tor look like a walk in the park. LOL!

      May 27, 2014

    • Carina G.

Well, I guess I'm going to have to find some tougher trails/hills at Hi Tor! Ha ha ha...
