Innovation Under Austerity

Hello Hackers!

It's been a little while since I've spoken to the list. Andrew has even been doing the wrap-up emails! I hope everyone's great and building neat things and all that stuff.

The reason I'm writing is because a friend sent me a talk by Eben Moglen called Innovation Under Austerity and I LOVED it. I believe most of the hackers on this list will love it too.

The thing I love most is that this talk suggests innovation doesn't come from financing innovation, like via VC or investment banking. It comes from tinkering. It comes from pulling things apart and putting them back together. It comes from hacking the things we own and seeing what happens when we want to build something simply because it would be neat. We already know this, don't we?

I hope everyone enjoys it!

James
