Hi all,

I've now spoken to Jonathan from Freetronics ( about the soldering workshop idea and he is happy to give us a bit of a discount on the kits for the day. Much thanks goes to him.

The kit I would like to get for people is the KitTen ( I saw this one used at LCA last year for the Arduino Miniconf and it's a great kit for people to learn to solder on as it has a range of components and is something incredibly useful for people wanting to get into electronics. KitTen is a 100% Arduino compatible board, has a prototyping area on the PCB, it's all through hole soldering so nice and easy for people to solder and doesn't take too long to do as there's not a huge amount of components on it. If there are other kits you would like to bring along, please feel free to post about them, but preference does go to people who want to build the KitTen.

Aimed cost for the day is $25 per person, this would include one KitTen, lunch (sausage sizzle) and consumables for the day (solder, etc). This might change by a few dollars either way, but I will nail down the cost in the next few days. There will be at least a few FTDI cables on hand on the day, and I will try and organise a stack of them for people to purchase as well. If there are other things you would like to get from Freetronics for the day, email me and we can try and work something out.

The day is: Sunday the 4th of March. 10am start, run till 4 or 5, people are welcome to hang around longer if they want.

Numbers are capped at 30 people and it will be the first 30 to pay as we need to order all the parts at least a week ahead.

HSBNE will provide a few soldering iron's for those who don't have them, but I highly encourage people to bring their own irons along as each iron can be slightly different in use and it's easiest to learn with the one you will be continuing to use.

Volunteers for the day would be appreciated, another 5 or 6 people at least to help people with the kits would be great.
