AngelHack - World's Largest Hackathon!

Join 2,500 developers for AngelHack Toronto, Fall 2012 - the world's largest hackathon. Take a crack at $650K+ in prizes! Top teams are flown to Silicon Valley to showcase their hacks to investors and media.

Use code "ILOVEHACKERNEST" for 50% off!

Hackernest is the AngelHack Toronto city organizer! Official, yo.

Get excited Toronto! AngelHack’s 24-hour Hackathon competition is coming to town! Join us this Fall for Canada's inagural event, where you'll find:

  • HUNDREDS of amazing developers & designers to work with
  • Gourmet food, sweet swag, nerf guns, helicopters, and at select locations... AR drones and free massages
  • Over $650,000++ in prizes, including acceptance into AngelHack's Hackcelerator program and trips to Silicon Valley to pitch to rooms full of investors (more details below and on our FAQ)
  • Media coverage and immediate attention for your hackathon project to get taken to the next level
  • An awesome community of mentors, influencers, and expert judges to help you along the way

What should I build?
Create a prototype (hack) of something that you believe solves a big problem. You don't need a business plan or anything silly like that, but you should be able to show the "big idea" potential of your hack. AngelHack is a launchpad for you to flush out and validate projects you've always wanted to build. Previous winners include: Appetas, GiveGo, TapFame, SnapStore, ShareBrowse, Kloutron, & Blue Dragon Security.

What are the rules?
All code must be FRESH. Prior to the hackathon you can create your design, wireframes, logo, and user flows. You can even build hardware. But to make things completely fair, you cannot write any code whatsoever until the hackathon starts. All code must be put together at AngelHack. You're on your honour.

Thanks, it wasn't very visible on their website. Unfortunately it seems i need to have $600 minimum on my account to play with it.

Angelhack was a lot of fun and it was great seeing all the different ideas out there. I don't mean to pitch here but I talked to a bunch of you at Angelhack but didn't get your contact information. So if you saw our pitch, Geomaps, which was the landuse planning mapping on Google Maps, and liked it or had some good advice; message me back. We should have a press release through Esri Canada coming out next week and we won Honorable Mention Award at Angelhack. Check us out at

Hey everyone. I am looking for a front end designer, and a couple developers to help me launch my idea called is a collaborative consumption, two sided marketplace that allows ordinary people to rent out their unused belongings, and allows other people in need of things to rent them. Think of AirBNB but for everything other than accommodations. Using a minimum viable product I have proven that there is demand for this idea on both ends. People want to rent things, and people have stuff laying around that they are willing to rent out. This is a disruptive idea that allows people to make money off of the things collecting dust in their garage (ladders, lawnmowers, snow blowers, tools, lawn furniture, camping equipment, canoes, etc etc.) There are similar community sharing sites already, but nobody has done it right. Let's change that. Message me if you are interested. Cheers.

Here's my pitch...."Where's my shit?" a mobile app for friendly reminders about borrowing between friends. Everyone has borrowed something and forgotten to give it back, and loads of people have loaned something out and forgotten who has it, or worse know who has it but feel too awkward about asking for it back.

We solve the problem with a mobile repository that automatically reminds both loaner and lender by making them laugh, and diffusing the awkwardness of the "ask". I own the domain name, and I have a facebook page with over 3000 likes (not kidding). If an app was built, it could be immediately shared with an audience of 3000 facebook fans. Looking for people who can build this! :)

We need ONE MORE DEVELOPER to complete our AngelHack team! Preference goes to Ruby on Rails and/or Mobile Website development.
We plan to build a website with a complimentary mobile utility (all supported by a thinking-man's backend) that helps users in need locate 'Good Mechanics'.
If you have what it takes (or can refer someone) to help us meet our goal of a functioning Minimum Viable Product by Sunday's deadline, please email me quickly and join our pit crew!!!!

We are working on a Windows 8 app (C#) with an Azure Mobile Services backend for the hackathon. This will be a service that relies on crowd sourced data to provide a new experience for app discovery that addresses many issues faced by users of new and less mature app stores like Windows 8 and Windows phone. It is a unique approach and one that addresses a strong and unmet existing demand.

There's three of us so far (developers), but we can use another developer with experience in Windows apps and/or Azure development, and a UI/design specialist. I should mention that this is not targeted for a startup, although there is potential for revenue and building a solid asset so who knows, but the main goal is to have fun and build something that people would use.

Hey Guys, our startup is MaikSense. We did a 60sec pitch on Monday. We are creating an iPad app that will attempt to make sense out of your content depending on the what your doing at that moment in time. We got a lot of positive feedback and have successfully began to build our team for the AngelHack event. We are always looking to accept additional developers to join our team, preferably iOS proficient. So if your interested in learning more, feel free to contact me here (mkirlew[at] or you can also find me on LinkedIn.

CORRECTION: We need either a iOS or web-based developer (preferably RoR). If your interested let us know!

Since we're posting pitches here... Our team is building a music sharing platform called volksfunk for creative commons / free to copy music. More metrics for artists than other Internet Radio options, more control over the music for listeners. Our back-end is nodejs, and the front end will be web based for now, with a Windows Store App (WinRT / Windows 8) implementation if we have time.

We could most use a UX and/or design person, but we'd be glad to have nodejs people or anyone who wants to play with building a Windows 8 app.

Fair warning: We're not building this to make money; more like a wikipedia mindset. Also we're going home to sleep at night for an energetic start on Sunday morning. If this still sounds interesting to you let me know, even if just to play with something new. There are currently two of us, so we have room.

We could really use a talented ruby on rails or nodejs developer for the Vote-It team. We need someone who wants to take charge, and be a lead developer. If you're looking for a team, anonymous voting (yet secure and authenticated) is a good bet. There are people out there right now that need this service desperately, and they have no alternative but to either suffer silently or go out in streets protesting. This is your chance to work on something for the good of humanity, so please send me an email if you're still waffling, or looking for a team.

We would also like a designer, with a taste for simplicity, or anyone with a passion to help give a voice to those who are in need.

Thanks, best of luck to those who are already teamed up, and a big thanks to the organizers.

*Sorry for double posting, I put this in the last event instead of here*
