SUMMARY: MIDI Drum Machines Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Hackers Guild\n**Space is limited. Please register on Eventbri
te to reserve your spot:** https://www.eventbrite.com/e/1996249429782\n\nM
IDI drum machines are powerful tools for both music production and live pe
rformance—but with so many devices and software options available\, gett
ing started can feel overwhelming. This workshop is designed to remove tha
t friction and get you creating quickly.\n\nIn this hands-on session\, you
’ll learn the fundamentals of working with MIDI drum machines using Akai
 ’s MPD-218 controller paired with MPC Beats\, a free\, professional-grad
e music production platform available for PC and Mac. While the specific t
ools used in class are Akai-based\, the concepts taught are broadly applic
able across many drum machines and digital audio workstations.\n\nWe’ll
start with the essentials: understanding the interface\, navigating workfl
ows\, and using shortcuts efficiently. As the workshop progresses\, you’
ll move into crafting your own beats\, instrumentals\, and even full song
arrangements using MIDI hardware.\nAlong the way\, you’ll experience how
drum machines dramatically improve creative speed without sacrificing mus
ical quality.\n\nParticipants will also receive a custom sample pack to ex
periment with\, helping you jump straight into hands-on creation.\n\nThis
workshop emphasizes learning by doing and is suitable for beginners as wel
l as musicians looking to modernize their workflow or explore performance-
oriented production techniques.\n\nHardware / Software Used\n\n* Akai MPD-
218 MIDI Drum Machine\n* Akai MPC Beats (free software)\n\nPrerequisites\n
\n* No prior experience required\n* Basic familiarity with computers is he
lpful\n\nWhat to Bring\n\n* Optional: your own MIDI controller or laptop\n
 * All required equipment is provided on-site\n\nSkill Level\n\n* Beginner
 to Intermediate\n\nTags / Categories\n\n* Music Production\n* MIDI\n* Elec
 tronic Music\n* Live Performance\n* Audio Engineering\n\n## FAQs\n\n**Do I
need prior music production experience?**\nNo. This workshop is beginner-
friendly and starts with the fundamentals.\n\n**Do I need to bring my own
equipment?**\nNo. MPD controllers and PCs with software are provided. You
’re welcome to bring your own gear if you prefer.\n\n**Is the software f
ree?**\nYes. MPC Beats is free and available for both PC and Mac.\n\n**Wil
l this help with live performance as well as production?**\nYes. The works
hop covers both beat creation and performance-oriented workflows.\n\n**Are
these concepts transferable to other drum machines or DAWs?**\nYes. Most
techniques taught are broadly applicable across many platforms.
