Introduction

This meetup is for beginners or developers with some experience in web/software development. We started this meetup for two reasons: provide beginners an opportunity to learn to program and experienced developers a space to code and help one another.

We will be kicking this meetup off with a 4 week series of talks.

What's the structure?

We will kick off each evening with a short 30 minute talk. Topics will vary depending on the evening. After the talk, the space is available for beginners and developers to continue code/develop/hack on whatever they prefer. For beginners, we have our prework for everyone to work through.

• 6:30pm - 7:00pm - Talk of the Night

• 7:00pm - 9:00pm - Hack Session

Who should attend?

• Individuals looking to learn more about programming or web/software development

• Prospective coding bootcamp students

• Recent graduates of a coding bootcamps looking for a space to hack

• Developers with 0-3 years experience looking for a place to work with other developers

• Experienced developers who like to help beginners and need a place to work on projects

What do I need to bring?

• A laptop computer (preferably MacOSX)

• Text editor installed (i.e. Sublime Text 2)

• BYOB (beer, wine, water, snacks)

What's the schedule for the talks?

7/9/14 - Fundamentals of Programming in Ruby.  Learn the absolute basics of code: how to store information in variables, arrays and hashes

7/16/14 - Intro to Object Oriented Programming in Ruby. Learn how to organize your code using Object-Oriented programming principles like classes, class-based inheritance, class instances and class instance variables

7/23/14 - Advanced object oriented programming in Ruby. Learn how to organize your code using Object-Oriented programming principles like classes, class-based inheritance, class instances and class instance variables (continued)

7/30/14 - Setting Up Your Development Environment. Setting up your development environment is not so much fun. We want to help you get through this process, so you can focus on writing code.
