Using Hadoop for MapReduce on Cassandra?

From: Alex M.

So - I am seeing a lot of interest in Apache Cassandra for BigData databases....I am interested to learn more about how Apache Cassandra differs from HBase. It seems to be that Cassandra is *eventually* consistent, whereas HBase is more ACID compliant.

It seems that users who already have a Hadoop cluster use HBase, but those who don't often pick Cassandra first.

I note that you can set up FlumeNG to write Hadoop events to Cassandra, but I am more interested in the other way. Has anyone in HUGUK actually done MapReduce/Hive operations reading from Cassandra instead of HDFS.

Alex

PS. This mailing list is supposed to be for discussion between HUGUK members so that we can share our knowledge and experience. I know it is mostly used for announcements, but it isn't limited to that.
