A suggestion would be to either video these presentations and put them up on YouTube or at least put the slide decks up on SlideShare or some similar service. A related idea would be to create a LinkedIn Group matching the Meetup Group and then as part of the process have the presenters post the name of their presentation as a Discussion topic. This would allow the monthly Meetup to be the “Brick and Mortar” face of the group and the LinkedIn Group be the “Online presence” of the group. It would also open the topics discussed in the local Meetups to a worldwide audience – and perhaps cause other Meetups to request a local presentation of something presented geographically elsewhere? Finally, it would be good for any organizers to actually put photos of themselves up on their Meetup Profiles so if attendees have any later questions they can put a face together with a name.

A great, well attended meetup with a good variety of people/roles/levels of experience. Recommended!

I like the 2 talk format even better than the half/half. I guess its b/c hadoop, hbase and hive a sufficiently mature that you can generally spin them up w/o much trouble. One quibble though. While talk #2 was very interesting, entirely too much time was wasted on getting it to work (sort of).

It is a great channel to collaborate with the Hadoop user Community here in San Francisco. This was my first meeting. It is motivational and interesting to hear how others are also implementing hadoop.

Each individual was amicable, adoring, insightful and ...simply put, the cat's pajamas. I would introduce every attendee to my Mother, addressing them as my BFFF.
