Theater District Open House

Experience dance, music and theater! Visit the Alley Theatre, Hobby Center for the Performing Arts, Wortham Theater Center and Jones Hall! Performances will be offered on stage at all 4 of the Theater District's venues, tour backstage, dive into the costume trunk, get up close with musical instruments at the instrument petting zoo and ride the Trolleys from venue to venue all day long. End your day with a FREE Houston Symphony concert starting at 4 pm at Jones Hall. There will also be an opportunity to purchase the best season package deals of the year to member performing arts organizations.

This is a free, family-friendly event. (Translation: Parking will be challenging because this is a popular event. Please arrive early.)

Downtown offers free metered street parking on Sundays (do not use the red ones). There are some surface lots which have drop boxes (cash only in the exact amount), and some surface lots which have attendants (do not give cash to an attendant unless they display a photo work badge). Garage parking is available for a charge.

Since the high temperature will be in the mid 90s, please dress accordingly and having bottled water is recommended. Even though there is trolley service provided, please be prepared for extreme walking.

If you are planning to attend the Open House, but do not intend to join the group, please do not rsvp yes to this event. It falsely enlarges the number of attendees.

Excellent event as always. The Hobby center's previews were great and the Symphony concert was a spectacular finish.

Is the plan to park at the market and then repark for the event? not familiar with downtown so not sure if restaurant is close to theater district or not?

The market is on the northwest corner of Main and Prairie at the Byrd's Lofts and is four blocks from the Theater District so it will not be necessary to move your vehicle. There is not a parking lot outside the market so I would find street parking wherever you can. (A downtown map can be found at http://www.downtownho...)

If you or someone you know is an educator in K-12/community & college, attending the Theater District Open House is a good way to earn professional development hours. You can also learn about the museum discounts & "Educators Nights Out @ The HMNS & HMFA".

Houston is fortunate to have world-class fine art organizations including opera, theater, symphony and ballet. These organizations perform primarily in a geographic specific area of downtown known as the Theater District. One day per year the theaters and symphony hall coordinate to provide a free family-friendly day of short performances and presentations. This gives everyone the opportunity to see the venues as well as receive discounts on specific performances and season subscriptions. There is a pre-planned schedule of activities, and you attend which presentations that you would like. At 4:00pm, the symphony gives a one hour concert.
