[ONLINE] Harry Potter "Chamber of Secrets" Book Club: Chs 7-8

This week we'll be reading "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets"! Unlike regular book clubs, we're (re)reading the HP novels a few chapters at a time.

We'll be discussing Ch. 7: 'Mudbloods and Murmurs' and Ch. 8: 'The Deathday Party'. Here's a quick summary: Draco buys his way onto the Slytherin team and calls Hermione a slur, Ron's attempt to defend her with a backfiring wand has poor Ron spewing slugs, a Lockhart detention ends with a homicidal voice only Harry can hear, and we find out Filch is a squib. Then a memorable Halloween sees Harry and co attending Nearly Headless Nick's Deathday Party, only for the night to end with Harry hearing the same murderous voice, leading them to: a petrified Mrs Norris and an ominous message that the Chamber of Secrets has been opened, enemies of the heir beware! Dun dun dun...

First-timers are always welcome and the reading is only meant to be a jump-off point for conversation. Don't worry if you're a newcomer, as each book club is independent of each other. It's also fine if you don't have time to read or finish the text; we're an informal bunch and just love to chat!
