  • Santa Clara Valley Water Demonstration on Tuesday, 8/22 starting at 5:00 PM
The Santa Clara Valley Water District will soon vote on the Delta Tunnels project. We need to make sure that they vote NO. The public meeting on August 22nd is potentially one of their last meetings before a vote in September. At the last public meeting, the Santa Clara Valley Water District Board expressed many concerns about supporting the Delta Tunnels project and asked for more public input, click here to see the live tweets. (https://twitter.com/RestoretheDelta/timelines/884888701314056193) Please plan to join us to voice your concerns. If you need help formulating a 2-3 minute public comment, send us an e-mail at [masked] or give us a call at (408)[masked]. Please bring your friends! If you find that there is no way you can attend, you can find your board member here (http://www.valleywater.org/About/Board_of_Directors/District_Boundaries.aspx) and contact them directly by clicking on their bios. (http://www.valleywater.org/About/BoardMembers.aspx) As a Santa Clara Valley Water ratepayer, we urge you to speak on these items at the opening public comment session: 1) You do not want to pay for a project that will cost $1 billion before cost over runs and that will not provide the District with additional water supply. Staff estimates of increased water supply are not accurate. They need to consult the CA WaterFix website and look at climate change modeling done by environmental NGOs. 2) You do not support a project that will result in worsened water quality for the South Bay. Water quality in the South Bay is directly dependent on flushing action from fresh water from the Delta. 3) You do not support a project that will divert even more water from a healthy San Francisco Bay-Delta estuary to big, industrial agriculture known for record use of pesticides and chemicals that get into our food supply. 4) You do not support Santa Clara Valley Water District partnering with San Luis Delta Mendota Water Authority to weaken Bay-Delta water quality standards through litigation or public media campaigns. 5) You support use of ratepayer money toward conservation, storm water capture, ground water capture and clean up, recycling. 6) You do not support the use of Ad Valorem property taxes to pay for Delta tunnels planning, construction or operation, or for supporting anti-Delta programs in partnership with San Luis Delta-Mendota Water Authority Thank you for your advocacy! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=060jEwexRo0 Over Troubled Waters (Documentary) From Restore the Delta (http://www.restorethedelta.org/) More information at: http://safepurewater.org/ Or call[masked] with any questions or comments

  • Demonstration Against Vector Control's Planned Fogging
Vector Control is poised to begin fogging. They have held their annual Open House and they have been on the news announcing they will soon begin fogging. So far, they have not yet found even one mosquito tested positive for the West Nile Virus. We will be demonstrating in front of the Board of Supervisors office building, the responsible body for this continuing mass poisoning. Prior to the court hearing, Healthy Alternatives To Pesticides (HAP) members and supporters will be holding a demonstration against West Nile mass pesticide fogging. You are invited to join us on Wednesday, May 17th from 12:00PM – 2:00PM at 70 West Hedding St. in San Jose. Parking: The place to park for more than one hour is the multi level parking structure opposite the main jail on Hedding. It may cost roughly $5.00. There are a few metered parking spaces allowing 2 hour parking along Hedding Street, North San Pedro Street and further south on West Mission, but these spaces are often filled at mid-day. Bring quarters just in case one of these spaces is available as they are much less expensive. The free visitor's parking lot on the west side of the County Government Center strictly allows only one hour parking and is patrolled frequently. Don't park for more than one hour in that lot and don't try to just move your car. HAP will have signs or you are welcome to bring your own. Thanks to all who are participating in this effort. Every single person who helps in any way makes a HUGE difference.

★ PLEASE JOIN US TO PROTEST THIS WEDNESDAY, July 13TH FROM 4:00PM - 7:00PM IN SAN JOSE TO STOP THE PESTICIDE FOGGING SCHEDULED FOR LATER THAT NIGHT.★ Fogging Alert! Santa Clara County Vector Control just announced their next scheduled spraying this Wednesday, July 13th starting at 11:00PM. A map of the area can be seen HERE (http://www.arcgis.com/home/webmap/viewer.html?webmap=d583dc7003604d8295eaadece6331a00&extent=-121.958,37.2968,-121.8729,37.3465). We will be protesting that day on Wednesday, July 13th from 4:00PM - 7:00PM by Starbucks Coffee at 1432 West San Carlos St. in San Jose. The cross street is Meridian Ave. You, your loved ones, our pets, our wildlife and our locally grown food supplies are in grave danger! "Fogging" (the spraying of toxic pesticides in neighborhoods), causes serious harmful health effects, environmental damage and can even kill! We need your help to make this protest a success. I am counting on YOU to please forward to your mailing lists, Nextdoor, environmental groups, personally call people, and text the protest information. Our goal is to have over 30 people or more holding signs and passing out flyers to people. We will supply the signs and fliers. Feel free to make your own and bring them. Please bring a friend or 2 and/or even your pets! All ages are welcome. Feel free to wear a bee keeper outfit, dress up as a bee or even wear a mask! The more people that show up the more of an impact we will make! Here is their press release: "The Santa Clara County Vector Control District (SCCvcd) has confirmed that adult mosquitoes collected from the 95126 and 95128 ZIP code areas of the city of San José have tested positive for West Nile virus (WNV). The detection of mosquitoes infected with WNV has prompted the scheduling of a mosquito fogging treatment in the surrounding areas in an effort to prevent human cases of WNV. Weather permitting, the ground fogging operations are scheduled for 11 p.m. on Wednesday, July 13, and will conclude a few hours later." A map of the area to be fogged can be seen HERE (http://www.arcgis.com/home/webmap/viewer.html?webmap=d583dc7003604d8295eaadece6331a00&extent=-121.958,37.2968,-121.8729,37.3465). ★ Shocking Video Of Toxic Pesticide Fogging In Santa Clara County★ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jZ6_lEMBlN4 Please Share! Let's make this go viral! In spite of specific instructions from the County Board of Supervisors to find a non-toxic method of controlling West Nile Virus, Vector Control will be spraying San Jose this week. As stated on the Washington DC official Government website, they don’t spray for mosquitoes (adulticide) because scientific studies show that aerial spraying is not effective and non target and beneficial species such as bees, spiders and the preying mantis are killed as well. Additionally, pesticides residues linger in the environment, causing asthma, cancer and certain birth defects. http://doh.dc.gov/service/west-nile-virus-overview People fogged with this poison have watery eyes, blurry vision, a hoarse voice, sore throat, rhinitis, lethargy, long term rash, liver and kidney impacts and other health damages. In major studies the pesticide is linked to autism in offspring when pregnant women are exposed. It is especially dangerous for cats. The pesticide Vector Control is using is Zenivex E4. According to the MATERIAL SAFETY DATA SHEET says: “HAZARDOUS TO HUMANS AND DOMESTIC ANIMALS, HARMFUL IF SWALLOWED, CAUSES MODERATE EYE IRRITATION. AVOID CONTACT WITH EYE, SKIN OR CLOTHING”... “toxic to bees, aquatic organisms and invertebrates.” No one can say they even know what it is as 96% of Zenivex E4 is a "trade secret." Thus any claims of safety or benign effects are lies. A very small amount is toxic and hazardous! View the MSDS https://www.maricopa.gov/EnvSvc/VectorControl/pdf/Zenivex%20E4%20MSDS.pdf In July 2015 Healthy Alternatives to Pesticides collected dead bees after the pesticide spraying. To view dead bee report please go to: http://files.meetup.com/1825762/%235DeadBeesReport.pdf For questions or more information please contact Brandi Madison at:[masked]. http://www.healthyalternativestopesticides.com/ After some experience with it, New York found Zenivex E4 could not be shown safe. It no longer is allowed to be used used in New York. The use of it here has killed whole bee hives and the key predators of mosquitoes: frogs, dragonflies, damsel flies, birds, likely bats, and the fish in Vasona reservoir leaving just the mosquitoes and black flies to multiply without predators. It does not kill mosquito larva so mosquitoes rebound within hours, but with no predators. People here have observed it killing birds almost instantly. The fogging is 100% counterproductive by killing the key first line of mosquito defense. It is very important to close your windows and other sources of outside air during the fogging and for the next day. If you are pregnant, and can possibly do so, leave the area for 2 to 3 days. Take children out of the area and anyone on dialysis. This poison was marketed with false claims that it had a photolysis half life of 4.1 days in soil (as the state water permit reports), but New York found the half life over 140 - 340 days. Our own Vector Control District has decided to use in the future, what they claim is a safer pesticide, but will dispose of the Zenivex E4 they have by emptying it on our neighborhood beginning Wednesday night. (The new pesticide claims could also be false.) WHO IS DOING THIS TO US? Vector Control, but THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS COULD STOP THIS MASS POISONING IN AN INSTANT, BUT HAVE NOT. If we could fill the Board Chambers even once we could probably stop it. That is how important your presence and our numbers are. JOIN HEALTHY ALTERNATIVES TO PESTICIDES. http://www.healthyalternativestopesticides.com We have filed suit to stop this massive poisoning.
