I think that is a very good idea for starters and it don't cost anything.  And if you do decide to take Greek lessons after that, it would be much easier since you would already know few things ahead of time.

There is also another place in Manhattan around 42st where Greek classes are help. I'm not sure of it's exact location for is been many years since I been around that area.   This place is not affiliated with the Greek Church.  I'll try to find out more if anyone is still interested
