**Do this walk because** \- this is the second of three consecutive days walking from Reading to Basingstoke on the St James' Way\.

During 2026 we plan to continue to Winchester and on to Southampton to complete this section of the Camino de Santiago in England.

**Walk facts**
**Form:** Linear walk from Mortimer railway station to Bramley railway station.
**Distance:** Approximately 16 km / 10 miles
**Duration:** Walking time circa 4.5 hours.
**Grade:** Easy/Moderate depending on the weather. The walk has a total ascent of 172m.

**What to take**: A packed lunch and plenty of water.

**Walk description**
Starting from Mortimer station its a short walk to join St James' Way where we head for [Calleva Atrebatum](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Calleva_Atrebatum) and can eat our packed lunch. Our walk includes a loop to Mortimer West End that can be taken before or after our break, depending how we feel on the day. If the weather is bad we can visit a local pub.

Next we'll set off across country for the second part of our journey that takes us to the historical village of Bramley, our destination for today.

At Bramley we may be tempted to nip into the Bramley Inn before catching the train and heading for home.

On Sundays the trains from Bramley to Mortimer/Reading are scheduled every 60 minutes with a travel time of 5 minutes to Mortimer and 19 minutes to Reading.

**Meeting at**
Mortimer Railway station. Please be there by 9.50am. The walk will start at 9.55am.

If you would like a lift from Reading station to the start of the walk please contact Carl R to check availability etc. The 7 seater vehicle will leave Reading promptly at 9.15am.

**TRAVEL**

The day starts at Mortimer railway station but ends at Bramley station.
***From London***: buy a day Return to Bramley which will cover both journeys. It will cost £39.26 but with [Groupsave](https://www.nationalrail.co.uk/tickets-railcards-offers/promotions/group-save/) or a Network Railcard, it's £26.13 (as of 17/11/25).

Catch the 8.49 am from London Paddington, arriving Mortimer station station at 9.50 am (change at Reading).
