I took a trip to Rickett's Glen State Park, link here:
7 years ago and can say it is truly the best waterfall hike I have done! This area was slated to become a national park in the 1930's and thankfully due to WW II never obtained that status as the PA DNR has done a magnificent job keeping the local character of the area and a lower profile as compared to National Park status. I spent so much time in the Glens Natural Area, I never made it to World's End State Park, link here:
so have to plan this trip to try to get there, but this time opening it up to the Group! We will camp at Rickett's Glen State Park so get to enjoy 2 great breakfasts and a group meal together, but lunch you are on your own. This will be a decent drive from the Baltimore area, but I assure you well worth the effort....and those of you who know me, know I do not exaggerate, though I may try to make you think I am! ;-) So plan on some amazing adventures from the areas we visit to the fun around the campfire at night! There is trout fishing and kayaking on Loyalsock Creek at World's End to other fish in the lake at Rickett's Glen with great hikes and views in between. So let's saddle up for another classic Washington Backpacker Adventure weekend before we head to Southwestern VA for Trail Days 2 weeks afterwards! Camping/firewood fees for group camping will be about $10 per person for BOTH Friday and Saturday nights, which is a steal (normal campsites are $35 per tent per night), and the 2 group breakfasts and Saturday dinner will cost about another $12, which is a great deal as well. So let's enjoy the best Waterfall Hike in the East along with a great party, this time in Pennsylvania!
