Flippin' Friday Double Trouble "Hillacious" Hike - Auburn - 6 Miles Int/Adv

I've flipped out this week and decided to experiment with another new "hillacious" route for you guyz to try. You wanted more hills, so here they are!

We'll meet at the trailhead (Green Gate #138 I believe) at Russel Rd in Auburn, hike Stagecoach to Upper Stagecoach, to Mossy Rock, to the Confluence, where we'll catch our breath before heading over for some serious climbing up Training Hill (Pointed Rocks).

Ps This first part of the trail is all downhill, but affords great views of the Confluence area below. But wait, whatever goes down, must go up, right? Oh yeah....

Once at the top of this 1000 ft monster hill (we love it really), we'll come back down via Pig Farm, nip across the bridge and up Tinker's Cut Off to Stagecoach. This 2 mile 800ft climb will lead us back to our cars, which I'm sure we'll be very happy to see at the end of the hike!

Should be about 2000ft of elevation gain, total.

As usual, bring water, snacks if needed, sturdy shoes, poles, and a good sense of humor - you'll need it on this hike!

Directions:

From Sacramento area:

Take I-80 towards Reno

Take exit 120 for Lincoln Way in Auburn

Turn right onto Lincoln Way

Turn left onto Russell Rd

Destination will be on the left, about 0.6 mi down Russell Rd.

You won't miss the trailhead, as it has a small parking area for about 10 cars and is easy to spot. There is no fee to park here. However, if all the spots are taken, you can park on the road, you just have to be creative.

See you there!

Incredible picture, Anita! Most of us were clicking away with our phones, yet had no glasses on, thus had no idea of what we were taking picts of. Thank you!

The dog thought the two runners were the front end of our group (which is a reflection of the hike's pace). She liked their pace. Dog recovered. Thanks for the fun intro to a new part of the world!

I was worried too. The girl in the pink shirt and the guy with the curly hair, blue shirt, and camelback? They passed up as we were climbing the hill? I had chatted with them a little earlier so they knew I was from Reno. When this Reno dog accompanied them on their run for over two miles, they suspected she had run amuck. They are now in my phone as Dave the Dog Saviour and Michelle.

Wow, what a gnarly, and may I had, oversized group! We've never had so many people on a Flippin' Friday hike before, even when Sherpa served his infamous margaritas! This was definitely a good workout...great weather, great people, nice dogs, and of course an amazing 9 year old boy scout who keeps the front pack jostling for position! Glad everyone had fun..C u next time!

Dang, Carla... I'm gonna start leading hikes just to get this kind of touchy-feely stuff.. Look at this -- you're surely "Queen For A Day"!! (Altho you're too young to know what that tv show was.... :-/

But... it's all well-deserved. You provide hikes with such variety, spunk, & organization. Thank you, & hope you totally lick the sick-buggie soon... :-)

    Hi All,
Wow, we have a big group for tomorrow, and a good weather forecast too! Just a quick note - I've been sick all week - no voice (much to Annie's delight), sore throat and cough. While I'm up for some of the hike, I may end up bailing on the second half...I'll just have to see how I'm doing by tomorrow. But, most of this group know the TH section like the back of their hands, so the hike will certainly go on, whether I'm on that part or not. I hope to be....
    C U all tomorrow!

    February 14, 2013

  • Kathy

Thank you Juli for the generous offer but I won't be able to make it this time.
