This one is Chico's idea. I tried this hike a dozen plus years ago and never made it to the top (started from further away). So here goes again. It's about a 5 1/2 loop with an elevation gain of about 1,200 ft. Apparently it is quite the view on the top. And for us ski and snowboard junkies it's a chance to visit a familiar mountain without snow. Here are a couple of links provided by Shannon when she did this a few months ago;
Seeing as it is a pretty short hike, afterwards for those who would like to I'd like to walk through the Summit Railroad Tunnel. We'll essentially be parked right on top of it. It's a 1,600 ft tunnel that was bored through the granite by Chinese workers back in the 1860s. It's extremely cool, and pretty historical as it was part on the original transcontinental railroad. And there's zero chance of us getting flattened by a train as it hasn't been used in years. Here is a link to it; http://www.arounddonnersummit.com/places/railroad.html .
Two things to mention. One is that no shows are not appreciated. If you sign up then please attend. And two, please don't post the question of what time are we going to be back. If you have to be back at a certain time, make sure you're with a car group that wants to be back at a certain time or drive up solo. Also, I do tend to go at a pretty slow, exploratory pace. So if the group gets split up and people want to go ahead I'm totally fine with that.
