Ecuador - Hiking, Baños and Galapagos

    Ecuador – Hiking – Baños and Galapagos

    Mainland: 14D/13N, Hard & Soft Hike, Guayaquil and Galapagos:

    July 1-14, 2017

    Day 1: Arrival to Quito. Transfer to the hotel. Rest, Adjust to the high altitude.

    Day 2: Quito City Tour (B/L) Visit the old colonial Quito (8,858 ft),  Presidential Palace, Old Town, Mitad del Mundo. Night at La Mariscal zone.

    Day 3 – Group A Only (hard hikers): Begins hike the extinct volcano of Pasochoa (Wildlife Refuge), 4.17 miles at 11,800 feet (4,199 meters).

    Day 4 – Rumiñahui - optimal acclimatization, optional to Climb the Rumiñahui  volcano  5-6 hours of hike. Transfer to Otavalo 8,202 feet (2500m). B/L

    Day 5 – Otavalo market – Cayambe volcano: Visit the Indian market of Otavalo and continue to the refuge Oleas Ruales, 15,091 feet (4600m) and of Cayambe Volcano, 18,996 feet (5790m). This is the third highest mountain in Ecuador. At 15,387 feet (4,690m) on its south slope is the highest point in the world crossed by the Equator. B/L/D

    Day 6 – Ascension Cayambe – Baños: Begin hike at midnight for ascension, en route to the summit and traverse immense glaciers upon return.  Depart for Baños. Join group B. B/L

    Group B Only (soft hikers):

    Day 3: Papallacta Termas: Papallacta region, hike to Rancho del Cañon. Hot springs. B/L/D

    Day 4: Antisana Reserve – Isinlivi: Visit Antisana Reserve and Miracocha Lake.  Transfer to Isinlivi where the Quilotoa Loop starts. Night at Isinlivi (8,858 feet). B/L/D

    Day 5: Trek Isinlivi – Chugchilan - Quilotoa: Trek to the Quilota Andes Region then to Toachi Canyon.  Night at Toachi,  (10,498 feet) combine with a visit to Hacienda Tigua. B/L/D

    Day 6: Zumbahua Market – Patate – Baños: Visit authentic indigenous market of Zumbahua. Visit Patate Valley en route to Baños. Join Group A.

    Day 7 – Group A and B: Baños: Various activities in the afternoon to include Pailon del Diablo. This falls have a cenote underneath that is passable to go to the other side of the overlook. B/L

    Day 8 – Full Day in Baños: Activities to include bike rides via waterfall route, visit the Las Cascadas (Cascades), canopy tour, cable car to the falls and rafting. Final activities will be determined when close to final trip date. B/L

    Day 9 – Baños to Quito: Return to Quito en route visit to rose plantations. (Ecuador is famous for hybrid roses). B/L

    Day 10 – Quito to Galapagos: Proceed to “La Loberia”. Only in Galapagos, is the only place where you will find see marine iguanas.

    Day 11 – San Cristóbal: Cerro Colorado (Giant Tortoises), Puerto. Chino: B/L

    Drive to the Highlands of San Cristóbal; visit the Giant Tortoises Breeding Center in Cerro Colorado. Enjoy these huge reptiles in their natural habitat. Swim in nearby beach of Puerto Chino. Lunch will be served in one of the farms.  Walk around the town Puerto Baquerizo Moreno and watch the sea lions.

    Day 12 – Day Tour, Isla Lobos and Tijeretas Hill, B/L - Take a speedboat to Lobos Island. Nesting in the cliffs there are blue footed boobies, frigate birds, as well as brown pelicans. Observe all these sea birds during a hike on this volcanic island. Thereafter, snorkel, underwater there are marine iguanas, sea turtles and many tropical fish; Lunch at the beach.

    Day 13 –- Interpretation Center, kayaking, farewell dinner: B/D

    Visit the interpretation Center of the National Park on San Cristóbal. Learn about the geology, climate, flora and fauna as well as about the human history of the archipelago. Pirates, whalers and others visited the Islands before Ecuador started with the colonization in 1832. Continue with a hike through the tropical dry forest. See land animals like lava lizards, Darwin finches and flycatchers. And finish in the beautiful beaches of San Cristóbal.Go to Playa Man for kayak. Then, a farewell dinner.

    Day 14 - Flight Galapagos to Guayaquil, (B) – tour of Guayaquil Colonial town. Transfer Out & Flight back to the (Quito) Mainland to catch a flight back home late at night.
