We are excited to have Tony & Bryce, Hiking Upward Gurus, join us for another hike. Check out their Facebook page here (https://www.facebook.com/#!/HikingUpward). Here's your opportuity to ask those burning questions about their site. The Stephens Trail Hike (detailed description here (http://www.hikingupward.com/GWNF/StephensTrail/)) is along the Massanutten Mountain ridge line offering spectacular views in the Shenandoah Valley. The panorama from Kennedy Peak is an unbelievable 360°.
Ann, organizer of The Fredericksburg Hiking and Outdoor Group (http://www.meetup.com/Fredericksburg-Hiking-Outdoors-group/), and some of their hikers will be joining us.
LUNCH Bring your lunch as we will eat at the Kennedy Peak Tower. If you have a jetboil bring it (Bryce will probably bring his). And bring a cup and your beverage of choice if you want to boil some water with a Jetboil.
1. This is a moderate 8.5 mile circuit hike with 1,400' elevation gain suitable for anyone who regularly hikes this type hike.
2. For your safety each hiker must have this map with while hiking. Click her, print and bring this map. (http://www.hikingupward.com/GWNF/StephensTrail/images/Map.pdf)
3. We will spend time at the beginning understanding the trail, the blazes we'll follow, and where to look for arrows.
DRIVING INFORMATION: ARRIVE 20 MINUTES EARLY to grab coffee, take a nature break and form carpools as we leave Dunkin Donuts promptly. If you are willing to drive to the trailhead, please have enough gas. Plan to give your driver $8 for gas. If you can offer (or need a ride) to Dunkin Donuts add a post below being as specific as possible. Metrorail does open until 7am.
Please take into account $5 FOR CHARITY when deciding about this hike. Donations will be given to Bryce & Tony's favorite charity.
