This will be a rather unstructured meetup. We will leave by 08:05 and hike the steep 1800' vertical up to a short spur leading to the Crest Trail [about 1 1/2 hours at a good steady pace - it's steep in places with loose gravel]. Then there are 3 options:-
1. Return with me to the hawkwatch observation area and stay as long or short as you like [steep downhill makes me slow]
2. Return to the trailhead on your own
3. Continue hiking on your own, e.g. a nice longish loop is Crest/Embudito/Three Gun Spring & back to the start. If you take this option you are on your own, with regard to trail finding, snow conditions, everything.
If taking option 1, bear in mind that the site is exposed [wind, sun]. The number of raptors is unpredictable but unlikely to be large. Most will not be close and binoculars are needed to appreciate them.
Obviously bring water, food, clothing appropriate to the weather. Poles may help with the steep bits of the climb.
Look for an update the evening before. Cancelled for bad weather. HIKE AT YOUR OWN RISK.
