A few days before the Vernal Equinox, and on St. Patrick's Day to boot, we'll be traveling to one of the best hiking spots in the state and one we haven't been to in over a year. Most of the trails at Shades consist of ravine streambeds, so be prepared for some rocky, rugged trails that may be wet and muddy. Bringing along plenty to drink as well as something to eat would probably be a good idea for this one.
Admission to the park is $5 per vehicle.
We'll be meeting at the parking lot in front of Dell Shelter. A map of the park is located here (http://www.in.gov/dnr/parklake/2970.htm) at the Indiana DNR website. Just click on the "Maps" tab and then choose the Property Map. The Dell Shelter is indicated as "B" on the map.
Car Pool Info: For anyone interested, at 11am a car pool will be leaving from the west side of Broad Ripple High School (1115 Broad Ripple Avenue) in the free parking spots along Compton Street just south of Broad Ripple Avenue (this is not a parking lot; we park on the street and gather on the sidewalk under the tree near the cement bench). The best places to park are directly beside the high school between Broad Ripple Avenue and 62nd Street. These spots are free on Saturdays and are usually wide open when we meet for the car pool. Please be on time!
Car pool @ 11am
Hike @ 12:30pm
Length of hike: Roughly 4 hours
See you on the 17th,
