Time for a local hike and this time we'll be meeting at this Indianapolis state park. Our plan for the day will be to do between two to three hours on the trails and the territory is mainly moderate with some stairs and a couple of inclines.
The entrance fee to the park is $5 per vehicle.
We'll be meeting in the parking lot in front of the Reddick and Sycamore shelter houses. When you pass through the park gatehouse, continue on the street, which will pass a field on the left. You'll eventually pass a street on the right that leads to Delware Lake and then pass a street on the left that leads to the saddle barn, and the parking area for the shelter house is directly ahead, across from the sledding hill. The parking lot is to the right, and a stone building with rest rooms is in the center of the area. The DNR page on Fort Harrison that provides a PDF of a map is located here (http://www.in.gov/dnr/parklake/2982.htm).
We'll be doing the Lawrence Creek multi-use trail to begin with and then do the Fall Creek and Camp Creek trails.
As usual, our car pool will be meeting at the west side of Broad Ripple High School (1115 Broad Ripple Avenue) in the free parking spots along Compton Street just south of Broad Ripple Avenue (this is not a parking lot--we park on the street and usually gather on the sidewalk under the tree near the cement bench). We'll be leaving at 10am. The best places to park are directly beside the high school between Broad Ripple Avenue and 62nd Street. Please be on time and arrive ready to go.
We'll plan on getting lunch at the nearby Panera on 56th Street for our after-hike grub.
